you can't handle the truth...

Kaffee: I want the truth.
Col. Jessep: You can't handle the truth.

One of my favorite movie scenes. Young Lieutenant Kaffe (Cruise) questioning the self assured senior officer (Nicholson); Colonel Jessep yelling at Kaffe: "You can't handle the truth".

And isn't that the case with us? We can't handle the Truth. In fact, at the deepest center of ourselves, we're afraid of the Truth.
When Jesus was speaking with His disciples in John 14, knowing he was going to His death, He told them "You know the way to the place I am going" (John 14:4). Thomas (maybe he should be called Honest Thomas instead of Doubting Thomas) told Jesus that the disciples didn't know where He (Jesus) was going, so how could they know the way? Good point. If you don't have a destination, you sure don't know how to get there. Jesus' answer was direct and unequivical: "I am the way and the truth and life. No one comes to the Father except through Me". (John 14:6).
So succinctly He gave them the destination- the Father- and the means, the Way, to get there: He Himself. Not some set of rules like the ten commandments, not a list of do this and don't do that, but a Person.

to be continued...I just wanted the anonymous poster to have something to respond to...anonymously of course.
